Ottawa January 12, 2022 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is excited to mark its 50th anniversary this year! Celebrations officially launched this week, with activities planned for the rest of year to reflect on the past, present and future of Canada’s colleges, institutes, CÉGEPs and polytechnics.
To kick things off, CICan has launched an in-depth look at its history, including a timeline presenting key milestones that have shaped the association. This history of CICan will be updated in the months to come to offer a closer look at its impacts over the years, including the evolution of international and domestic projects, as well as its policy wins on behalf of Canada’s colleges and institutes.
“50 years is a milestone worth celebrating! Though this is CICan’s birthday year, we are honouring the incredible system we are lucky enough to represent”, notes Denise Amyot, CICan’s president and CEO. “From humble beginnings with a dedicated staff of three, we’ve grown in every possible way. Today, we’re a team of nearly 130, representing 139 member institutions. With more than 95% of Canadians living within 50 km of a member institution, and thanks to our extensive reach around the globe, we work every day to futureproof communities in Canada and abroad. This anniversary will be an opportunity to reflect on the impact we have had together, since 1972, and to share our vision for the future.”
Looking back also means looking forward. CICan is therefore inviting friends, members, and partners from around the world to share their vision of what the future has in store . These op-eds will appear throughout the anniversary year in CICan’s biweekly newsletter.
