Ottawa, May 2, 2017 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is proud to launch a brand new outbound student mobility program that will allow Canadian students to pursue experiential learning opportunities in Brazil.
In an effort to encourage students seeking international experience, CICan will offer a minimum of 33 bursaries to college or institute students pursuing a learning opportunity in Brazil this year. Each bursary will be worth a maximum of $5,000 and will offset the costs related to living abroad.
This new program builds on the success of the Canada-Brazil Scholarship Program (CBSP) which last year offered scholarships to 19 Brazilian students to study in Canada. It will now allow Canadian students to benefit from a similar intercultural learning experience, furthering the partnerships already in place between Canadian and Brazilian institutions. In fact the need to promote two-way exchanges by also supporting outbound students from Canada was identified by both parties.
“Canadian colleges and institutes have a long and fruitful history of collaboration with their counterparts in Brazil and have hosted many Brazilian students and teachers over the years”, said CICan president and CEO, Denise Amyot. “We are thrilled that Canadian students will now be able to benefit from this relationship to expand their horizons and gain valuable international experience.”
Additionally, in 2017 CICan is offering two new scholarships designed for students currently studying at Federal Institutes of Technology (IFs) located in the Northern region of Brazil that are looking to study in Canada. The scholarship is for a maximum of 16 months and includes 3 components: language training (English or French), two post-secondary semesters, and an internship or research project.
