CICan celebrates student creativity with its 2020 Art Showcase

Ottawa, June 24, 2020 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is thrilled to celebrate the creativity and talent of six student artists following the results of its 2020 Student Art Contest.

Despite COVID-19, this year’s contest received over 200 submissions from talented college and institute students across the country in six categories: textile, mixed media, or sculpture; photography; digital Illustration or animation; painting; and, drawing. Public voting on finalists in each category took place at the end of May.

“Each year, I am amazed by the incredible talent and creativity of our college and institute student artists,” said CICan president and CEO, Denise Amyot. “Having these works of art displayed in our offices is a constant source of inspiration for CICan staff and guests. Well done!”

Congratulations to the winners of this year’s contest:

  • Digital Illustration & Animation: Witch Garden by Calvin Ching, Holland College
  • Drawing: Who Am I? by Zia Foley, Centennial College;
  • Painting: You Are More by Anne Kim, Centennial College;
  • Photography: Life of a Lemonade Stand by Raul Caro Jr, Assiniboine Community College
  • Textile, mixed media, or sculpture: Fluvius by Damien Avajon, Cégep du Vieux-Montréal
  • Printmaking: PRINT ISN’T DEAD by Teighan Fleming, Assiniboine Community College

The winner in each category will receive a cash prize of $350 and have their work displayed on the walls of CICan’s office, located inside the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa. The winning pieces are also displayed on the CICan website.
