Ottawa, March 1, 2018 – Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) is proud to partner with Scotiabank to empower the next generation of Canadians with the skills, experience, and tools they need to become successful global citizens. Together, they have launched the CICan/Scotiabank Global Mobility Program, a brand-new pilot project designed to provide Canadian students with the opportunity to gain valuable international experience.
Thanks to the program, two students from CICan member institutions have embarked on a 12 week fully funded internship with Scotiabank’s Digital Factory in Mexico City, which started on February 6, 2018. Hailing from Saskatchewan Polytechnic and Vancouver Island University, they are studying in the fields of Graphic Design and Front-End Software Development, and will put the practical skills they learned in the classroom to effective use over the course of their internship. In addition to travel expenses and a weekly stipend, the students were also enrolled in a three-week intensive Spanish language and culture course offered by a partner institution in Mexico City.
CICan and Scotiabank are committed to building on this groundbreaking public-private partnership to explore opportunities for additional internships around the world, including in the Pacific Alliance region where both organisations have a significant presence.
Quotes:
“Today’s employers seek graduates who are culturally literate and adaptable, with strong intercultural communications skills and the ability to understand and empathize with different points of view. Experiencing and exploring the world of work beyond Canada’s borders is therefore critical for Canadian youth and helps them become skilled innovators in a globally connected and competitive job market.”
Denise Amyot President and CEO of CICan
“As Canada’s international bank, Scotiabank is proud to collaborate with CICan and create opportunities for international mobility that will encourage and support more Canadian students to go overseas thus helping to broaden their intercultural perspective and allowing them to fully appreciate and contribute to an increasingly globalized world and multicultural Canada.”
Munsif Sheraly, Director, Multicultural Banking at Scotiabank.
“The Global Mobility Program is a very powerful tool and one that differentiates us from our competitors. As students are seeking ways to push themselves further and to develop in new and exciting ways, our partners at CICan are helping us become Canada’s most ideal employer for students – a launching pad for outstanding careers in business and technology, globally.”
Michael Shelsen, Director, Global Campus Recruitment at Scotiabank
