Message from the Governor General on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of Colleges and Institutes Canada
I am pleased to extend warm greetings to everyone taking part in Colleges and Institutes Canada’s (CICan’s) annual conference as they celebrate their 50th anniversary this year.
In recent years, we have all had to learn to navigate troubled waters. From the COVID-19 pandemic to international conflicts, from climate change to social issues, these are challenging times in our history. It is more important than ever to learn from each other and work together to build a better world.
Founded in 1972, CICan has become the national and international voice of Canada’s largest post-secondary education network. Member institutions offer more than 10 000 programs in urban, rural, remote and northern communities, including Indigenous communities.
In our ever-changing world, the results of this partnership are tangible. It is creating a modern, skilled workforce, which in turn is bringing tremendous vitality to communities in over 25 countries around the world.
CICan’s team can be proud of its achievements—too numerous to count— and has so much to celebrate on this 50th anniversary. Congratulations on reaching this important milestone!
Her Excellency the Right Honourable
Mary Simon
