From her involvement in the creation of NBCC’s Wellbeing App to hunting down firewood to keep a student warm in the winter, to organizing a fundraiser to raise money for a student to avoid eviction, Ms. Reid’s commitment to NBCC’s students is evident in her well-earned reputation on campus. She is involved across the campus, sitting on committees for orientation, graduation, social wellbeing, student assessment and appeals, and the student emergency fund. She is also NBCC’s lead for Mental Health and the co-chair for the College Mental Wellbeing Committee._x000D_
Ms. Reid’s contributions in Woodstock extends beyond the campus with involvement in the Woodstock Voluntary Family Services, the Suicide Prevention Committee, Woodstock Caring Community Committee, and the New Brunswick Association of Social Workers provincial board._x000D_
Ms. Reid’s advocacy on behalf of students has led her to champion accessible student housing and revised policies for students with disabilities. The student council recognized Ms. Reid as an ally and approached her in 2015 to turn an old greenhouse on campus into a space for students and faculty to grow vegetables and supplement the Campus food bank. Ms. Reid saw the potential of the space to meet a variety of student needs, including providing a green space to improve mental wellbeing. Ms. Reid secured funding for the initiative and where funding fell short, recruited students in the trades programs to complete the project._x000D_
The “Greenhouse Grocery Oasis” is now used by a variety of groups on campus. Ms. Reid’s tireless work to improve her students’ lives through guidance and financial support speaks to her love of her work. In 2017, Ms. Reid was selected by the Canadian Association of Social Workers to receive its Distinguished Service Award for the Province of New Brunswick.
