CICan’s long-standing, fruitful relationship with Brazil has allowed for many Brazilian students and teachers to be hosted in Canadian institutions, contributing to the rich diversity of colleges and institutes.
This strong tie is maintained by CICan’s leadership role in facilitating various institutional partnerships, promoting student and faculty mobility and implementing programs in support of technical education and professional development.
CICan-CAPES Collaboration Agreement
CICan signed a 5-year collaboration agreement with the Brazilian Federal Agency for Support and Evaluation of Graduate Education (CAPES) in January 2019. As part of this collaboration, CICan, through its member institutions, will be providing professional development to Brazilian basic education teachers to promote and improve their socio-emotional and pedagogical skills.
The objectives of the agreement are to foster academic cooperation, deepen cooperation between CAPES and CICan member institutions to contribute to the improvement of the teaching and learning processes of Brazilian basic education, train Brazilian teachers in Canada and, provide leadership and internationalization training to staff.
Canada-Brazil Scholarship Program (CBSP)
In collaboration with the Conselho Nacional das Instituições da Rede Federal de Educação Profissional, Científica e Tecnológica (Conif), CICan offers scholarships to Brazilian students studying in technical and technological programs at federal institutes who wish to study at a Canadian college or institute. The program is comprised of three (3) components: language training (English or French), two post-secondary semesters, and an internship/work placement or an applied research project.
Each scholarship covers the airfare, tuition fees, books, emergency insurance and a monthly stipend to cover some of the expenses for living in Canada.
