2025 CICan Leadership Institute for Vice-Presidents

June 21 - 26, 2025

Who should attend

Those in the role of vice-presidents or equivalent positions who aspire to become President/Director General.

What you will learn

This intensive program is designed primarily to enhance the participants’ knowledge of the expectations at the President/Director General level, especially relevant in the context of a disrupted and rapidly evolving public postsecondary system in Canada and the erosion of public trust in institutions to deliver for them. Vice-Presidents who are looking to develop their leadership abilities and advance their careers in the college and institute setting will examine the current and emerging leadership competencies and complexities of the role of President/Director General and the leadership profile and skills essential for success.

A number of key areas will be examined, including:

  • leadership, skills and traits – self-assessment, skills assessment and self-care;
  • key internal and external contextual issues facing Canadian college/institute executives-nationally and internationally;
  • internal and external roles/responsibilities/accountabilities of the President/Director General, including stakeholder and government relations, fundraising and donor relations;
  • the role and relationship of the executive team with the President/Director General;
  • the role and relationship of the President/Director General and the Board Chair/Board of Directors and good governance responsibilities and accountabilities;
  • the key elements, challenges and expectations of the role of the President/Director General.
