The Native Education College (NEC) opened its doors in 1967 and quickly became British Columbia’s largest private Aboriginal College. The college’s focus is to meet the needs of Aboriginal adult students requiring developmental, vocational, and applied academic programs to access employment or further post-secondary education. The institute offers a variety of programs with multiple levels of certification: certificates, diplomas and degrees. The Native Education College is a non-profit society that is governed by a Board of Directors whose members are elected from the society. The society is currently made up of over 30 community leaders from many different Nations, representing the diversity of Aboriginal people in Canada.
